Nestled amongst the trees of the Golden Valley in Stroud is St Marys Residency. An Artist residency created to offer both an inspiring and restful space which honours every phase of the creative process.

Our residency is inspired by the Menstrual Cycle as an embodied creative practice. And so just as the menstruating body requires safety and rest without pressure or expectation we honour the need for this as an essential part of the creative process; the wintering phase. We offer a cosy and safe space to be with the creative void, the emptiness into which the seed of an artistic idea may be born.

In equal measure we honour the need for a space to be able to focus and birth an idea into being, with action and agency, mirroring the Ovulatory phase of the Menstrual cycle, we call this the Summer season. And so we offer a space which also inspires, and energises and ignites creativity to come into form.

This is a self directed residency designed to meet the artist exactly where they are in their creative process. Whether you have the finest threads of an idea and desire space to dream it into form, whether you are already moving with your project and wish to complete it, or if you are somewhere between the two…You and your creative process and project are welcome here in whichever season or phase you find yourself in!

  • This is an Artist Residency which is welcoming of Women and all Gender-diverse artists of any art form, and of any age over 18.

  • You will receive a warm welcome on arrival!

    We wish for you to feel at home during your residency so you can rest and settle in to your creative process.

    Neurodiversity is celebrated and affirmed here, and we offer clear and direct communication and quiet spaces to rest into.

    The residency is self directed and led by your creativity.

    Included is a private bedroom with a double bed in either the ‘Nest’ which is a cabin set amongst the trees, or in the studio bedroom set inside the cottage.

    You will have sole use of the Writers cabin if staying in the Nest or the Studio if staying in the studio bedroom. The spaces are allocated depending on your artistic requirements.

    The spaces are cleaned weekly by us and bedding and towels are changed at the same time.

    A shared Bathroom and Kitchen are located within the cottage which you are free to use at anytime during your stay.

    If you would like to book a day of mentoring in the Weaving Arts this can be arranged and is at an additional cost.

  • We offer a minimum stay of 1 week and a maximum stay of 8 weeks.

    1 week - £399 (57 per night)

    2 weeks - £770 (55 per night)

    3 weeks - £1113 (53 per night)

    4 weeks - £1400 (50 per night)

    5 weeks - £1750 (50 per night)

    6 weeks - £2016 (48 per night)

    7 weeks -£2352 (48 per night)

    8 weeks - £2688 (48 per night)
